Pregnancy-Induced Nostalgia?

Well, it's been a while since my last post. Not much is going on. I have a doctor's appointment next week so I'll post more about Emily then. As for today, I thought I'd just write about what was on my mind at the moment I sat down in front of the computer.

So here it is, my thought for the day. It's totally going to blow your minds. Are you ready?

Apples and peanut butter are yummy together!

If I'm not mistaking, this was a favorite childhood snack of mine. I rediscovered it only yesterday and now I can't get enough! It all started in a meeting yesteray. One of my coworkers brought an apple and ate it during the meeting. All I could think about was how yummy that apple would be dipped in peanut butter. I was ready for that meeting to be over so I could get some. Once I satisfied that craving, Emily and I were much happier. Today has been the same way. I have been consumed with the thought of apples and peanut butter since I arrived at work. I couldn't even wait until this afternoon to have it. I had to have some for lunch.

I've gotten a few odd looks here at the office, but I figure people just think it's because I'm pregnant. But is it really that? Does anyone else out there eat peanut butter on their apples? Rachel, my peanut butter junkie, help me out here. Surely you have discovered this delicious snack :)

Despite what people say or think, I'm going to continue to eat my apples with peanut butter in bliss. As far as pregnancy cravings go, this and ice cream (but never together at the same time) are the only ones I've had. But I'm not sure that I would call this a pregnancy-induced craving. It's more like rediscovering a pleasant taste from childhood, complete with fond memories. A remembrance of simpler times...

That's my nostalgic experience for today. What's yours?

There can be only one…

Well, I suppose in this case, there are actually two: a first and a middle. Ashley and I finally decided on a name on Saturday night. Our daughter's name will be Emily Nicole. With the completion of this decision and Ashley taking her registration information to the daycare we picked out, we have completed most of the major pre-birth decisions for the baby. Now, if I could only finish up converting the office into a guest bedroom so that I can get the nursery painted...

Remiss in my Duties

Ok, so I finally figured out why people have been asking for Ashley update pictures: I forgot to upload one last month! So, without further ado, here is Ashley at 20 weeks and at 25 weeks, respectively.

Actually, I meant to upload this most recent picture last week, but with the first week of baby training 101 on the day after Ashley's appointment, it slipped my mind. The weekend was a fun-filled weekend of Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy. Sunday night I started playing the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. As a result, I have done nothing else for the past few days. Tonight, I managed to relinquish control of the television so that Ashley could watch Survivor and I could get these pictures posted.

Update on the Little Princess

As most of you know, yesterday was my 24 week check-up. Wow, 6 months, where has it all gone? Time really does fly.

Yesterday was the day of the infamous glucose test. I was worried that I woudln't pass because of the pre-diabetes. I figured I would have to go and do the 3 hour test, which is no fun at all. I passed :D The reading was 120 and 140 is their cut-off.

Everything else looked good as well. My blood pressure is fine and my iron too. Unfortunately, it is standard practice at my office to get iron pills no matter what. Because I had a reading of 12.1, I only have to take them once a day. Thank goodness for small miracles.

There is not much else to report. The baby was very active right before the appointment, I guess it could have had something to do with the sugar solution I had to drink before going in ;) Her heart rate was around 157-158, which is fine, especially after all that dancing she did :)

I believe that is about it. The TMJ has been better for the most part. Physical therapy is going well also. We are just in a flurry these days with day care visits, cleaning up the house for painting, and the myriad of other things one must do in order to prepare for a new baby. I am trying not to get overwhelmed but it does happen. There suddenly seems like there is so much left to do, but little time to get everything done. I mean, we only have 3 months maximum to get things done. I'm sure I'm driving poor Jonathan nuts. Thank goodness he loves and knows how to handle me when I get stressed out.

I guess that's all for now. I have a day care appointment this afternoon and then we start our parenting class tonight. I can't wait. I think the class will be lots of fun.

And yes, we'll post a picture as soon as we take one ;)

Until next time...

Pathological Programming

Lately, I have been reading a site called Good Math, Bad Math. On Fridays, the author posts in his Pathological Programming category, which is reserved for a description of some very, very strange and pointless programming languages. Today's post tickled me: the programming language is called Chef and programs in it are written like recipes. The thing that tickled me the most: there is a serve with sub-recipe statement that causes a sous-chef to go off and prepare the sub-recipe and return the dish to the main chef — basically, a function call.
