What color is your brain ;)

Four Words

September 25th, 2006 @ 12:10 pm · Posted by Ashley

So, I’m supposed to like respond to these four words….here goes.

1. Cold - That’s what it’s usually like in my office. Perhaps a better way to describe it would be freezing…but cold works ;)

2. Beauty - When I was at camp, we use to sit around the campfire and tell stories. And when the smoke would come around and blow in your face making you wheeze and cough, the counselor would always tell us that smoke followed beauty. And I continued the tradition when I became a counselor. Personally, I think they told that to all the little girls at camp ;)

3. Green - The color of the talking Yoda I have sitting on my desk at work. My brother and his wife gave it to me one year for Christmas. I love it. I’ve always been a fan of Yoda-speak :)

4. Book - The thing that multiplies rapidly at our house. Currently, I am way behind in my reading. My husband keeps begging me to read certain books. Unfortunately, I never seem to pick up the ones he wants me to. I think he has given up on me :) Don’t give up yet, Jon. There is always hope….Martin is on my list next…I promise ;)

Let’s see, I think I’m supposed to tag for people. Most of my friends, including my husband (Thanks Geof) have already been tagged, but I think I can still name a couple left off.
1. Jeff
2. Kat

Well, I had more people to tag but Misty got her post up before mine so I lost out on a couple of people. Oh well, guess I will only tag two!

Your four words are:
1. frog
2. blue
3. space
4. ruler

Turtles Gone Wild…

July 12th, 2006 @ 10:02 am · Posted by Ashley

That is what is happening outside my window right now. My office happens to overlook a small lake that has a rather large turtle population. I believe there are some snapping turtles present, however I have no idea what other species are attempting to co-exist with them.

There is much flipping as one tries to dunk the other under the water. It’s especially humourous to see one fin-smack the other :) From my viewpoint, they both look to be fairly large turtles. They have been fighting for over 5 minutes…at least, I hope it’s fighting. Otherwise both Jessica and I have witnessed some crazy turtle mating ritual.

According to google, water turtles do tend to be territorial, especially when living with other individuals of the same species. It also happens around mating time.

So who knows what exactly is going on. The two turtles take a break and then one will go after the other again. We’re either seeing a fight for ruler of the lake or a date gone horribly, horribly wrong.

Stay tuned for updates on Turtle vs. Turtle…One will win, the other must lose…What will happen to the loser; exhile, death, or mating with the ugly females? Check back later for results on this turtle death match ;)

UPDATE: Well, the turtles rolled around for about an hour or so, maybe even longer. I missed the ending, so I’m not sure which turtle won. However, they did romp across the entire width of the lake. I also came to the conclusion that they probably were not fighting, they were “fighting” if you know what I mean ;) After seeing this morning’s display of turtle affection however, I am very glad that I am not a turtle :D

Unbelievable!

I know, I’ve been posting weird articles all week long. Well, today is no exception. I have lots of biology feeds (in case you couldn’t tell) and I can’t help but share the really wacky ones. Some of them I post because of the great title (such as the second one below) :D

As always, read at your own risk. Enjoy :P

Cool….We Can All Be Trees!!

Is this the sneak peak into the future? Cemeteries will no longer be filled with tombstones and coffins, instead they will look like forests. So, if this is the way things will be in the future…there’s only one remaining question…
What kind of tree are you? ;)
