LASIK after the surgery

Right after surgery, the doctor tells you to keep your eyes closed, go home, and take a 3 hour nap. When you wake up, your eyesight should be at about 50% and should continue to improve over the next few days. That has made me realize just how bad my eyesight really was before the surgery. I can see better now, with roughly 50% correction, than I have seen in at least 20 years uncorrected. It really is amazing.

That said, the LASIK procedure itself was on of the freakiest things I have ever gone through. As far as I could tell, the job of one of the nurses was to simply sit beside me and rub my hands periodically for reaasurance. That is on top of the sedative that they give you to calm you down before surgery (and make you nap afterwards). Another random observation — staring up at the machine in your heavily blurred, semi-drugged state is like looking into the Eye of Sauron himself. That, or I just read too many fantasy stories…

My niece, Shelby Claire Norman, was born at 9:40am EST this morning. 6lbs, 2oz, 19.5 inches. Mother and baby are doing fine. Apparently she looks just like her brother Jake!

Turning One

Well, as most of you know, yesterday was Emily’s birthday. I cannot believe that she has been with us for a year already. My how she has grown. We went from lump of baby, to sitting up, to babbling, to crawling, and now walking. She is quite tall these days and hangs with most of the older kids in her daycare class. In honor of her birthday, I took some frosted cookies to her class yesterday afternoon (and no, they weren’t home-made). I took pictures of her and her classmates as they devoured the sugary goodness. I am not sure what Emily actually though. The teachers also had the birthday song on repeat on the CD player, so much dancing and eating was to be had. Here are a few snapshots from the “party”.

Emily’s Baptism

Well, it has been a busy week, but I have finally gotten around to uploading pictures from Emily’s baptism at Wesley United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 7th, 2007. I also included a few pictures from my parents house after church. Notice her pretty little bracelet, courtesy of Rae’s Jewelry. She also had a pretty little necklace on, but you cannot really see for the gown.

TiVo HD official

While most of our readers will not care, the TiVo HD is now official. From a storage standpoint, the TiVo HD will not store any more hours of HD programming than the Knology DVR that I currently have. However, I would be gaining the nice, shiny TiVo software that I fondly remember in my pre-HD days. While TiVo has had an HD capable DVR (the Series 3) for about a year now, the Series 3 rang in at around $800. The new TiVo HD will retail for a mere $299 — a much more affordable price for those of us with a new baby. Now, I just need to confirm that Knology will provide CableCARDs and I can finally ditch their DVR for TiVo goodness once again.

Treo 1, Washing Machine 0

Well, after have a cell phone for 8 years, the unthinkable finally happened: I left my Treo in my pants pocket when I threw my pants into the rapidly filling washer last night. Luckily, I figured what what happened based on the weight of the pants as I put them in the wash, so I immediately pulled them back out and retrieved my Treo. Alas, it appeared to be too late because the Treo looked to be dead. I was thankful that I had synced the Treo before I left work. However, after pulling the battery out and carefully using Ashley’s hair dryer to dry up as much water as possible, I left the Treo out to dry overnight while I researched what new smartphone I would be purchasing to replace my expensive screwup. This morning I figured I would try to see if I could get it to boot before I moved the SIM card to Ashley’s old phone. Amazingly it still works! I have been messing around with it all morning and have not noticed any glitches. I will keep an eye on it for a while to make sure that everything seems to be OK, but it looks like I dodged the bullet this time.

Emily Nicole Creekmore

Emily was born at 4:40pm on June 11th, 2007. As you can see, she is the most beautiful baby girl in the world. Of course, I might be slightly biased. She weighed in at a whopping 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was around 19 inches long. Both Ashley and Emily are doing fine, albeit very tired. See more pictures in this album. Maybe I will write more in a day or so, but for know, it is getting very close to time for bed.

Welcome to your late tweens! I am so glad that you finally caught up to me. No more old lady jokes for at least another 5 months

Seriously though, we’ve been together now for about 6 years now, almost 4 of those married. Over those 6 years, Jonathan has taught me a lot about many different things. Through him, I have even learned things about myself.

So, here’s to the man in my life who means the world to me. He is my husband, my partner, my best friend, my soul mate, the one who knows me even better than myself… The list could go on and on. I appreciate all that you do for me, even if I don’t say it directly. I thought of all days to tell you this, your birthday was the best. Thank you for all that you do for me. You are loved deeply (and more with each passing day).

HBO Options Ice and Fire

Finally, I motivating factor for me picking up HBO sometime in the future. HBO has acquired the rights to George R. R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire. They plan to turn each of the books into a season-long set of episodes. Said Martin on his site:

[The executive producers and screenwriters] impressed the hell out of me, and I’m really looking forward to working with them. They’re both bright, passionate, enthusiastic. They know the books inside and out, they get the books, and they’re committed to bringing my story to your television screens… not a vaguely similar story with the same title (ala Earthsea, or what passed for same on the Sci-Fi Channel). A Song of Ice and Fire should be in very good hands.

Winter is coming.
